The oxygen concentration of the air exiting the OBOGS unit is constantly monitored and its operation is adjusted so that it remains within certain physiological limits. Tracking and monitoring is performed by using paramagnetic oxygen detection technology. The monitor is split in a way that a malfunction of the controller and the concentration sensing element does not endanger the safety of the system. In case of malfunction, OBOGS sets itself to the maximum setting. In the OBOGS unit, there are active protocols in case of malfunction.
